Entrepreneurial Mindset Series: Part 1 - Get Started

Over the next two weeks I will be sharing a powerful series of blog posts that I wrote to help you to adopt the mindset of a successful Muslim entrepreneur.

These are lessons that I have learned the hard way through my 19+ years of entrepreneurship (which includes the years before I started an online business as well)

If you're not an entrepreneur already, this series will be invaluable. And if you already are, it will inspire you to go further and really ramp up the growth of your business.

The success or failure of your entrepreneurial venture depends more on your mindset that it does on practically any other factor. That's why I've selected mindset as the first component to work on.

So let's dive in.

Lesson1: Get Started

Step one to becoming an online entrepreneur is to get started. Now at first glance, this may seem rather obvious.

But sadly, it’s not obvious at all. So many people think about it, research it, and plan starting an online business, but they never actually start anything.

The good news, though, is that starting is easy. This is true about anything in your life. It’s easy to start a diet or an exercise program for example.

But getting started is not without it’s challenges. Whilst getting started is easiest, it’s also the hardest part.

That’s because it requires a tremendous amount of energy to choose a business model and niche (topic you will create the business around), put the systems in place to automate that, test out different things, find out what works and what doesn’t etc.

In addition, you’re doing all this groundwork but you’re getting no rewards….there is no money coming in yet. That can be tough and discouraging.

But fortunately for most people, it’s the excitement about the new venture that gets them over this hurdle.

If you wait to start your online business until you’ve learned everything you need to know, you’re never going to start.

All you need to know right now is enough to take the first step. Then once you’ve taken the first step, learn enough to take the next step.

Let’s say you want to start your own website or blog. The process of setting up your website consists of many smaller sub-steps and if you look at the whole picture all at once it can become overwhelming.

It’s much better to take it one small step at a time. Today learn how to purchase a domain name and then do it. That’s all you need to know and all you need to do for today. Tomorrow you can learn about hosting, the next day you can learn how to install your blog and so on.

Trust in your ability to figure it out as you go along. You’ve figured out many things in your life along the way. You’ll figure this out as well. There are so many resources (both free and paid) that will teach you what you need to know along the way.

Your first step may be to sign up for a free course at The Wealthy Muslimah Business School that shows you how to get started with one specific model. Or maybe your step is to research different topics to see what you want to blog about.

What's your first step? Take it right now. Take one step, no matter how small in the direction of your dreams. Maybe your step is simply to read this email. That's perfectly okay.

There's an old proverb Chinese proverb that says "The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step" It's so true. Take your step today.

Over the years, I've spoken to dozens of women who wanted to start a business of their own. Some of them were stay at home moms, whilst others were working outside the home. I've also spoken to single women with no children, divorced women who were the ones supporting their children and older women whose children had left home and they now had tons of free time on their hands.

Each of these women expressed the desire to start her own business. But many of them felt that they couldn't start right now because this wasn't the right time for them.

I'm still single. I'll start my own venture after I get married.

I have kids right now. I don't have the time. I'll start when they're grown up.

I'm too old to start a business. I should have started earlier.

The excuses are many and varied but the theme remains the same: This isn't the right time.

Now there are periods of time in each and every one of our lives, when adding one more thing to our already full plate can be a recipe for a meltdown and overwhelm.

If you’re pregnant with triplets, moving cross-country & juggling an outside job all at the same time, then perhaps now is not a good time to start a new online business venture.

But if you’re dealing with normal day-to-day challenges and you feel that you need to wait for the “perfect” time to launch your online business, then I’d highly encourage you to challenge that assumption.

There will never be a perfect time to start your online business.

Each year and each phase of your life will bring fresh new challenges. There is no perfect time, there is only now. Now, this moment, is as perfect as it gets.

There’s a huge advantage of acting now, one that is seldom discussed.

And that is the concept that money likes speed. That simply means that the one who is the fastest from idea to implementation is the one who reaps the BIGGEST financial rewards.

So if you've been using this excuse, this is the time to drop it and get moving.
